The former Acting Secretary General of the Football Federation of Kosovo and its former lawyer, Taulant Hodaj, has reacted to recent developments at the UEFA Congress where the symbols of the state of Kosovo were seen to have been removed from the Congress, an action taken by the Football Federation of Serbia.
In his post on the social network Facebook, Hodaj wrote that in this Congress, the symbols and respect for Kosovo were flagrantly violated, while a proactive reaction and dignified protest from the Kosovo Football Federation was lacking.
“ Reflecting on my time at the Football Federation of Kosovo, I feel it necessary to share some fundamental concerns about the recent developments at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade. As was clearly seen in Belgrade, the symbols and respect for Kosovo were flagrantly violated, while a proactive reaction and dignified protest from the Football Federation of Kosovo was lacking.
"Serbia's action is truly evil, as is the existence of a parallel federation for 'Kosovo and Metohija' within the statute of the Football Federation of Serbia, with figures like Radoicic, who have run parallel competitions in Kosovo. My previous request to complain to UEFA against Serbia for this flagrant violation of football principles and UEFA rules has been ignored by the FFK without any legitimate reason," Hodaj wrote.
Hodaj further emphasizes that in order to avoid similar cases, a fundamental change is needed in the way the FFK represents Kosovo on the international stage.
"To avoid the repetition of these unacceptable scenarios, it is imperative that the FFK itself actively demands from UEFA and the organizers full respect for the statute and equal treatment. In the absence of such an initiative, we as Kosovar football and as a state are discredited and find ourselves in a disadvantageous position."
"I strongly believe that only with a proactive, courageous and principled approach based on the principles of the UEFA statute, can we ensure the respect deserved for football and our country. It is time for a fundamental change in the way the FFK represents Kosovo on the international stage ," Hodaj wrote.
In Kosovo, there have been other reactions from both the Ministry of Sports and the Kosovo Olympic Committee, who have requested detailed clarifications from UEFA about the situation that occurred on Thursday in Belgrade.
Meanwhile in Albania, the Albanian Football Association and Armando Duka have not reacted, choosing to remain silent.
