Italy remains in fifth place in the UEFA national team rankings for the 2025-2026 season, a ranking that also provides the opportunity to have a fifth team in the next Champions League season for the two Leagues that will close the classification in the first two places at the end of the season.

How the UEFA rankings work. Each nation's seasonal points are calculated by adding up the teams' results in European competitions (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw plus bonuses) and dividing them by the number of participating clubs. The stakes are high; the top two nations in the rankings at the end of the season will earn an additional place in the next edition of the Champions League.
UEFA rankings, how points work. Points are not only determined by match results, but also include specific bonuses for participation in the Champions League, group position and passage to the knockout rounds. The final coefficient of each nation is an average calculated by dividing the points accumulated by all teams by the effective number of participants in European competitions.
