The Albanian Cup has entered an interesting phase, as there are only 8 teams left and all of them are from the Superior League. Yesterday, the Cup draw was made, where the teams have known the rivals they will face in the matches that will be played on February 11 and March 4, to reveal in this way the names of the 4 teams that will advance to the semi-finals.
If for the teams that seem to be confirmed as the main contenders for the "Final 4", the Cup is just a trophy and a secondary objective, the same cannot be said for the others. The teams that remain outside the "Final 4", have the only opportunity and in fact a real opportunity to secure millions of euros with only 5 matches, given that the winner of the Albanian Cup automatically qualifies for the first round of the Conference League. Thus, the teams that practically see qualification in the best four of the season as impossible, can pay more special attention to the Cup, being a very short path to ensure participation in Europe and perhaps, even to attempt to pass the rounds that would bring millions of euros to the coffers of Albanian clubs.
Winner of the Final 4 - Since the first year that Albania had the "Final 4" system, the Cup winners have been teams that qualified for the top four. Thus, Egnatia was the first team to win the Albanian Cup and at the same time managed to win the championship title. Something like this made the four teams that were in the "Final 4" go to the European Cups, among them Skënderbeu, but since the latter are banned from Europe, Tirana, which was ranked fifth in the classification, took the place of the "wolves". Last season, history repeated itself with the winner of the Cup, since Dinamo managed to win in the final against Egnatia. The latter were declared champions of Albania, while Dinamo won the Cup and the first 4 places in the classification went to Europe.
What changes the Cup - If the winner of the Cup this season would be a team that ends the season outside the "Final 4", it would make this phase even more interesting. The reason for this is the fact that the winning team would take a place and from the best four, only 3 teams would go to Europe and in this "mini tournament", there would be 2 fights, one for the title and the other for Europe. It may happen that even the team that ends the season in first place, will remain outside Europe if in the "Final 4" it finishes last and the Cup is won by another team that has finished the regular championship in fifth place or below./Panorama Sport
