Donyel Malen is Roma's new striker. He arrived in Rome tonight and will finally be able to start working with Gian Piero Gasperini, who has loved him since he was managing Atalanta.

Very close to his family, he is married to Delisha Shanajla. They have known each other since they were children. She has followed him everywhere and will undoubtedly come to Rome where she will be reunited with June, Svilari's wife, who is a close friend. Delisha and Doniel went through a difficult time a few years ago when their son was born prematurely and his life was in danger, like his mother, at the end of a very difficult pregnancy. "But today we are here," she wrote on social media, "and I thank God. My husband has been an incredible support." For Malen, fatherhood is the most important thing, almost a mission. He has a passion for fashion and luxury cars, but he spends his free time with his wife and three children. His mother has described him as "a farmer with clogs," whose grandfather was a key figure in a happy and peaceful life, despite the difficulties. He taught him a passion for football, played partly on the street and partly in the living room, when the low Dutch temperatures did not allow him to go outside.

Born in Uieringen, Netherlands, he grew up in a small rural village, Brizand, and was raised by his mother, Mariska Manshanden. He worked as a taxi driver at night because he had to look after his son during the day. “If he’s confident, he’s a killer in the air,” one writes about him in Germany, noting how the cartilage problems in his left knee he had as a child were now behind him in 2020. As a boy catching balls at Ajax, he dreamed of the Champions League, while at Dortmund he often went out with Haaland. One of his sons is called London (Felipe Lou, known as Loni; the others are Adonis and Zion). He is of Surinamese descent on his father’s side, a former footballer who, however, lived far away from him, and by the age of 9, he was playing with Denis Bergkamp. The first to believe in his potential was Mino Raiola, who, in a cafe in Amsterdam, convinced him by writing on a sidewalk: "Follow big dreams, sacrifice, believe in them."
And he did, even if only to thank his mother, who drove 162 kilometers every day to take him to training. In his bedroom, on the farm where he lived, there were posters of Ronaldinho, as he told Matthijs de Ligt and Justin Kluivert, among his best friends in football. Patrick's son has not had much luck at Roma. Doniel hopes to change that trend. And who knows, maybe this time fate will give him a hand...
