Bayern is under accusation: The champion club of Germany has been fined and warned by the customs of Munich for not paying the minimum wage to some employees of the youth sector.
The Bavarian city's main customs office said a "well-known football club in Munich" had not paid its workers properly for five years, from November 2016 to 2021.
The office's spokesman, Tomas Meister, confirmed to the Associated Press that Bayern Munich is the club under investigation.
The authorities have ordered the Bavarian club to pay around €250,000 in total, including fines for late payments and avoiding social security payments over the five-year period under review.
Investigations revealed that employees at Bayern's youth campus were paid €450 a month "despite the fact that the payment they should have received for the work was much higher".
" Contrary to the contractual rules and registered hours, many more hours were worked than what was agreed, with the consequence of not paying the valid minimum wage and bypassing the rules of social security", states the customs.
Bayern has announced that it has never considered paying its workers less and will pay the missing amounts.
