La Liga has made official the new salary caps for First and Second Division teams. La Liga has set the maximum amounts that clubs can spend to sign and pay their players' wages. Real Madrid remains the team with the biggest economic muscles in this regard, with a ceiling of 754.89 million euros. Barcelona, which last year suffered a cut from the employers' association of almost €380 million, can now spend €426 million on wages. Atletico, for its part, experiences an increase in this sense, reaching 310 million euros.
The First Category of La Liga has spending capacity for sports salaries of 2.6 billion euros, more than last season. The team that continues to attract all the attention in this parameter is Barcelona. This means that it spends more than the limit that LaLiga has set (€426 million) and with which the registration of players is limited.
It is forced to sell or bring in additional income to be able to sign new players. A reality that collides with that of Real Madrid, which is again the team with the highest salary cap: it has 754 million euros compared to 727 million euros. Atlético, the big agitator of the summer with big reinforcements (Julián Alvarez, Sorloth, Le Normand, Gallagher...), is one of the teams that has grown the most in its capital: €310 million.

A more complex situation is that of Sevilla. It took a big hit on the salary cap. While last season they had 152 million euros, now they have only 2.5 million euros. This means that they spend much more on wages than they can afford. Which shows that it is in a very delicate economic situation. Espanyol has a very similar situation, with only 8.8 million euros. One of the reasons for the crisis in Seville is the early elimination from the Champions League last season and the fact that it will not compete in any competition this season.
"Not playing only the Champions League is 70 million euros less", said Javier Tebas during the presentation. As for Espanyol, LaLiga pointed out: "In the Second Division they could not balance their income and now they carry the whole burden and the salary cap is deducted."
Between the First and Second Categories, there are nine clubs that have exceeded the limit. Among which the aforementioned names stand out: Barcelona, Sevilla and Espanyol.
How is the salary cap calculated?
The sports team cost limit is the concept that includes the maximum amount that each Spanish team can spend on salaries for players, coach, assistant coach and physical trainer, as well as the reserve team.
Its calculation is made from the difference in income (from television rights, advertising, tickets...) that each club receives from structural expenses and debt repayment expected throughout the season. Each team is the one that draws up its own salary cap and can also set an amount under its ceiling (as some clubs have done on occasion), but always in accordance with the rules of La Liga's Financial Control and that must is approved by the assessment body. If there is a salary cap that does not guarantee the stability of the club, this body will lower it to an amount that makes it possible. In the event that a team finishes the season over the salary cap, it will be forced to save money to correct this situation.
