Albanian sports have lost one of their most prominent figures. Kreshnik Tartari, one of the most important names in the history of Albanian volleyball, has passed away at the age of 83.
Born on July 21, 1943 in Tirana, Tartari dedicated his life to sports, initially standing out as a volleyball player with the Dinamo team and the national team. During his playing career, he won numerous championship titles and trophies, being part of the generation that marked the most successful period of Albanian volleyball.
However, Kreshnik Tartar's name is closely linked to his successes as a coach. He is considered one of the most successful coaches Albanian volleyball has ever known, shaping generations of athletes and building teams that dominated the national arena for years.
One of the most glorious chapters of his career was managing the Dinamo women's team. Under Tartar's leadership, the team began a period of extraordinary dominance in 1974, winning 11 consecutive championship titles and 20 in total. The team also achieved historic results in European competitions, securing a place among the top four teams in continental competitions.
Based on this winning formation, Tartari also built the national women's team, which achieved one of the greatest successes in the history of Albanian sports. At the 1987 Mediterranean Games, the Albanian national team triumphed over Italy, the European champion at that time, winning the title of champion of the Mediterranean Games.
For his extraordinary contribution to the development of sports, Kreshnik Tartari was awarded a series of titles and decorations, including the high title of "Grand Master".
The passing of Kreshnik Tartari is a great loss for Albanian sports. He will remain in the memory of generations as one of the architects of the greatest successes of volleyball in the country and as a personality who gave prestige and glory to this sport.
