The trophy remains in Paris, "Russian roulette" smiles at the Parisians. Arsenal "cursed" in the Champions League

PSG are the winners of the Champions League for the 2025-2026 season, after a thrilling final against Arsenal that was decided only by penalty kicks.

The London team took the lead in the fifth minute of the match. After a quick move from the wing and a breakthrough towards the area, Kai Havertz finished accurately, beating goalkeeper Matvej Safonov for the score 0-1.

One of the most controversial moments of the first half came in the 16th minute, when PSG players appealed for a penalty for a suspected handball by Bukayo Saka inside the area. However, the referee decided to continue play, without VAR intervention.

Arsenal ended the first half with a narrow lead, but PSG responded in the second half. In the 62nd minute, a foul by Kristian Mosquera on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the area resulted in a penalty for the French side, a decision that was confirmed after a VAR review.

From the penalty spot, Osmane Dembele was accurate, levelling the scores at 1-1. PSG came close to a breakthrough in the 77th minute, but Kvaratskhelia's shot was blocked by the post.

Regular time ended in a draw and the final went to extra time. Even during the extra 30 minutes, there was no shortage of controversy. In the 102nd minute, Arsenal claimed a penalty after a contact between Nunjo Mendes and Noni Madueke inside the area, but the referee did not award anything.

With the score still level after 120 minutes of play, the winner of the trophy was determined by penalty kicks. There, PSG's players proved to be more accurate and calm, securing their second consecutive European triumph and the most prestigious trophy for clubs on the continent.

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain "cursed" in the Champions League, as this is the second European final that the Londoners have lost. The same thing happened to the "Gunners" in 2006, when at that time Arsenal, led by Arsene Wenger, were defeated by Barcelona with the score 2-1.
