Everything from scratch! Teams head into extra time to determine Champions League winner
PSG and Arsenal failed to find a winner after 90 minutes of regular time in the Champions League final, which is taking place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, sending the match into extra time.
Arsenal took the lead quickly, in the fifth minute of the match. Kai Havertz took advantage of a move on the wing, broke into the area and beat goalkeeper Matvej Safonov with a precise shot for the score of 0-1.
One of the most controversial moments of the first half came in the 16th minute, when PSG players appealed for a penalty for a suspected handball by Bukayo Saka inside the area. However, the referee decided to continue play without interfering.
The first half ended with the London team's minimal advantage.
After returning from the break, PSG increased the pressure in search of an equalizer. In the 55th minute, Ashraf Hakimi attempted a free kick, but goalkeeper David Raja reacted successfully.
The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute, when Kristian Mosquera illegally tackled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty, a decision that was confirmed after a VAR review.
From the penalty spot, Osman Dembele proved accurate and restored balance to the score, scoring for 1-1.
PSG came close to a breakthrough in the 77th minute, but Kvaratskhelia's effort was blocked by the post. Meanwhile, in the 89th minute, Vitinja missed a golden opportunity to give the French side the win, as his shot went just over the crossbar.
With the score still 1-1 after 90 minutes, the final will continue with two extra periods of 15 minutes each. If the tie remains at the end of extra time, the winner of the trophy will be determined by penalty kicks.
