Farewell "Old Trafford" after 114 years of history, United thinks

As reported by the British tabloid Daily Mail, Manchester United is increasingly keen to build a new super-stadium worth 2 billion pounds (at the current exchange rate, 2.3 billion euros).

A 100,000 seater stadium that would mark the end of Old Trafford after 114 years of history. In fact, United's current home requires major renovation work that would see the club incur a significant financial outlay.

But recent assessments seem to indicate that such expenditure is no longer justified on the basis of the limited benefits it would bring. There is talk of a project already ready for renovation which would include an investment of 1.1 billion euros.

As it stands, the club was considering reducing the capacity of the iconic venue to around 30,000 seats to preserve the club's history and provide a venue for the women's and academy teams. It is for this reason that United were working to create a dedicated heritage preservation group to ensure that Old Trafford's historic elements are preserved, in the event of partial demolition.

However, the club recently agreed that 30,000 seats for youth teams and the women's first team are also too many. Just think how the league debut against West Ham, which will be played at Old Trafford, led to the opening of only one stand, given the few tickets sold. Hence the idea of building a 15,000-seat facility on the same site, which could be slowly expanded in the near future, was born.

United have already bought land adjacent to Old Trafford and now intend to commission architectural firm Foster and Partners to plan the redevelopment of this land by finding a way to integrate key elements of Old Trafford into the new design, so that the new. the scene does not seem soulless.

Meanwhile, the club is taking steps to send out a questionnaire on the matter to all season ticket holders by the end of the week in order to get a pulse on the situation among fans.

Such an important investment is seen by Ratcliffe as an excellent opportunity to increase the income of the English club, which a few days ago reported a red of 134.5 million in the last budget of 2024, the fifth loss in a row. In addition, the club also has a historic debt of 590 million euros, dating back to the purchase by the Glazer family in 2005.

It is for this reason that, to raise the money needed for the new stadium, Ratcliffe is targeting private investment that would exclude a burden on the club's debt situation and also avoid a significant increase in tickets or merchandising to the detriment of fans.
