Leaving the European Cups for the Super League team, the Albanian national team

When he scores, it's usually a beautiful goal. Albanian midfielder Qazim Laçi will leave Sparta Prague just before the start of the new football season. He has travelled to Turkey to undergo a medical and then complete a transfer to Rizespor, a Turkish club on the Black Sea. He is leaving at the age of 29, just before the contract he signed with Sparta expires in January 2023. On Saturday, the team will start the league in Jablonec without him.

A technically accomplished midfielder by Czech standards, who knows how to change the pace of the game, manages to get into the opponent's penalty area in time from deep in the field and with good shots from medium distances. Laçi also scored Sparta's last goal last season, equalizing the score against Olomouc with a brilliant shot from 20 meters, and thanks to that 1-1 draw, the team reached fourth place in the final round and in the European Cups.

However, Laçi will not play in the European Cups next season, but for Rizespor, who took ninth place in the Turkish league. On the pitch, Laçi is usually lively, bringing energy to his teammates and emotions to the game, which sometimes turned into crazy outbursts and theatrical performances. Fans will also remember his attempt in the last season's Champions League against Salzburg (3-0), when after a pass in the penalty area, he blocked the ball, allowing two defenders and the goalkeeper to pass him, dodged them and sent the ball into the empty net.

He also scored a wonderful goal from a penalty kick in the summer of 2023, precisely in the Champions League qualifiers against Copenhagen, but that time Sparta Prague failed to win from the penalty spot. Now he will be enjoyed by Rizespor fans, who are eagerly awaiting his arrival. "A complex player for the team. Adaptable, hardworking, a footballer with character that coach Ilhan will appreciate. Moreover, Albanians adapt quickly in Turkey."

Born in Albania, he soon moved to Greece with his family. He grew up playing football for the most successful club there, Olympiacos, and made his debut for the A team for just one minute. He began his adult football career in Cyprus with APOEL Nicosia, then Levadiakos. In the summer of 2017, he moved to Corsica, played in the French first and second leagues with Ajaccio, and in January 2023 he moved to Sparta. In the first half of the year, Laçi did not always appear in the starting lineup, but later he was among the stable players. He has put his “stone” in two titles, a cup triumph and qualification for the Champions League. A regular starter for the Albanian national team, scoring a goal in last year’s European Championship against Croatia (2-2). If he successfully passes the medical tests, he will meet his former Sparta teammate in Riga.
