The 'Golden Ball 2025' has learned the shortlist with the 30 footballers nominated for the individual award. The names that are nominated for the best coach, the best goalkeeper and the best talent under 21 years of age have also been learned. There will be 100 journalists from around the world who will announce the best football player for 2025 with their votes. It is noteworthy that for the first time in more than a decade, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not on the shortlist. Due to injury, the reigning winner, Man. City midfielder, Rodri, is also missing.

The 'Théatre du Chatelet' in Paris will open its doors on September 22 to welcome the best of the world of football, as players, head coaches and executives gather to celebrate the 'Ballon d'Or 2025' awards ceremony.

For the 69th edition of the awards ceremony, the founders of 'France Football' are preparing for an event that announces the best in the game based on performances during the season that ended, from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.

Individual and team performances, as well as achievements along with class and fair play are the main criteria used by an international jury of specialist journalists when voting for the best players.

During the evening, several different awards will be presented (including the inaugural Kopa for women and the Yashin for women) and this year's ceremony is expected to be missing two key names for the second time in more than a decade, as neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo (with eight and five wins respectively) are likely to be included in the shortlist of 30 players nominated for the 'Men's Player of the Season' award.

Interestingly, last year's winner, Manchester City's Spanish midfielder Rodri, has not been included either due to injury for most of the season.

The main contenders to win the 'Ballon d'Or 2025' are: Ousmane Dembele, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kylian Mbappe, Lautaro Martínez, Pedri, Raphinha, Mohamed Salah and Lamine Yamal.
