Barcelona continues to humiliate and mistreat its legends, making an ugly figure in the eyes of sports fans.
Barcelona announced Xavi's sacking on Friday after previously begging him to stay in his post, in a surprise U-turn after an embarrassing saga of ups and downs for the Catalan giants. Xavi became a legend during his time with the club, winning La Liga eight times and the Champions League four times.
As manager, he won La Liga in 2022/23 and guided the club to a second-place finish this season.
The bigger picture
Koeman also suffered a similar fate as Xavi. Barcelona's all-time top-scoring defender won the Copa del Rey and finished third in La Liga, only to be sacked at the end of the season.
Also club legend Leo Messi was allowed to leave in tears as he made his move to PSG and later in the United States to Inter Miami.
" I shouldn't say this... but how badly Barcelona treats its legends. What a bad generation. Maybe it's a bad series, but what a bad generation. What a bad generation. With Koeman, with Messi, with Xavi now, how bad. I wish the clubs treat their legends well, fantastically. That would be fantastic. This is a legacy of the connection between managers and fans ," said Sanchez Flores.
