Mark Overmars will stay away from the world of football until November of this year. The famous former footballer of clubs such as Ajax, Barcelona and Arsenal, will no longer be able to perform his duties as sports director, as FIFA has made public the suspension given to him by the Dutch Federation.
A year ago, Overmars was accused by colleagues and employees of the Ajax club, of harassing them with sexist messages. The situation became very problematic and Ajax sacked the sporting director, who had built a team full of promising talents and guaranteed the club huge income by selling them.
The Dutch Federation then sentenced him to a 2-year suspension, one of which was suspended, but this did not stop Overmars from starting work in another country. After a month, he became the sporting director of Antwerp and was part of the successful journey of the Belgian club where Arbnor Muja plays, which won the championship title and played in the group stage of the Champions League.
But the Dutch Federation took the matter to FIFA and the latter turned the suspension of Overmars into a global issue. Thus, he cannot exercise his duties until the end of November this year, immediately leaving his post at the Antwerp team.
