The national team coach, Silvinjo, spoke to journalist Viola Spiro on "Klan News" about getting to know the Albanians and being appointed to the bench. He revealed that he first heard about the Albanians from Roberto Mancini at Inter and Rei Manaj.
Regarding the leadership of the National Team, the Brazilian emphasized that the dinner with Armand Duka in Milan was decisive.
" It was very quick from player to coach. I retired in 2010 and after a year and a half, I started as an assistant coach. My wife looked at me and said it was another challenge for me. She was right.
I've said it before. When I first heard about Albania, it was at Inter. Mancini spoke to me. He spoke to me about the Albanian players, their courage and determination. He told me about Manaj and that's where I heard about him for the first time.
"A dinner with the Duke in Milan was the decisive moment. From day one I have always found support ," emphasized the red and black coach.
Silvinjo also remembered the qualification for the European Championship, saying that he did not sleep at night, when the success was achieved against Moldova. Amid emotions, the coach said that Albania will always remain in his heart.
" The European Championship was a very beautiful moment, we all enjoyed it. It was a serious job for the future. Going to Germany for the European Championship was something magnificent. Albania will remain in my heart. The victories over Poland and the Czech Republic were a sign that everything would go well and this was the right path. I have to thank everyone, the players and the staff, football is not done alone.
After the victory against Moldova, everything exploded in Tirana. I didn't sleep that night. We realized that we had done something very big. Not only for us, but for the whole country.
Honestly, after the draw at the European Championship, I wasn't scared or afraid. The responsibility was huge, but I was proud of the way we played. We represented our country very well.
"A lot of emotions at the European Championship. Against Spain, Italy and Croatia, it was a lot of emotion, because I knew some of the players. For me it was an opportunity to reflect, because I missed something: To enjoy the European Championship more. Maybe next time I will enjoy it more ."
Among other things, he said that the National Team did not do well in the Nations League.
" I'm one of those who likes to talk about the details. About the good and bad moments. In the Nations League, I didn't like the group. We had to play two games with everyone. We didn't do well in the last game and we were relegated to League C. When we win, we're all in, and when we lose, too. I'm disappointed, of course ," declared Silvinho.
