Huracán goalkeeper Hernsn Galindez recalled his encounters with Lionel Messi when they were both kids and “The Flea” played for Newell’s. “We met many times,” said Galindez, who played for Rosario Central while “Pulga” played for Newell’s. He also revealed Messi’s nickname as a child: “They always called him ‘the Colorado player who wears number 10.’ With him on the field, you would start the game 3-0 down.”
Galindez, 38, a former player for Universidad Católica (Chile) and Rangers (Scotland), added: "He was a genius. The videos clearly show his talent from that time; he attracted attention at that age with the way he controlled the ball." He also recalled the first goal he conceded as a goalkeeper to Messi, passing 5 players, including himself.
The Ecuadorian goalkeeper mentioned that facing Messi as a professional was an honor and that they exchanged shirts after Argentina's 1-0 victory over Ecuador at the "Monumental", to fulfill his 8-year-old son's wish for Messi's jersey.
