Real Madrid may have already made a decision on Xabi Alonso's future after their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Real Madrid hosted the Citizens at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night for a crucial Champions League clash. Ahead of the match, pressure on coach Xabi Alonso had reached a critical point, amid reports that the Spanish coach had lost the support of the dressing room.
Unfortunately for Alonso, the match did not go as planned. Although Madrid took an early lead, they were beaten 2-1 thanks to goals from Nico O'Rigli and City striker Erling Haaland.
And following this result, it seems that Real Madrid have already made a decision regarding Alonso's future at the club. According to reports from the Spanish media, Xabi Alonso will continue, despite the crisis, at the helm of Real Madrid, but the situation will not be tolerated for much longer.
With just six points from a possible 15 in their last five La Liga games, the club's board is said to have held an emergency meeting to assess the coach's situation, but it appears the final decision has been to continue the partnership. The board is said to be looking to the Spanish Super Cup in January as the final test for Xabi Alonso to save his position.
