Part of the four in the Champions League final, UEFA appoints the Portuguese referee for the European Super Cup final; will he bring PSG luck again?

UEFA has selected Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro to officiate the European Super Cup final between PSG and Tottenham at the Friuli Stadium in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday, August 13.

Pinheiro, 37, has refereed 68 UEFA competition matches, including five knockout stages and the second leg of the Conference League semi-final between Chelsea and Djurgarden, which the London Blues won 1-0.

He was also the fourth referee in the Champions League final between PSG and Inter, won by the French with a "manita" 5-0.

In the Super Cup, Pinheiro will have his compatriot Tiago Martins on VAR, along with Fabio Melo (Portugal) and Pol van Boekel (Netherlands).

Portuguese Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia will be the side referees and Azerbaijan's Elchin Masiyev will be the fourth official.
