Problems with the law, the Croatian Prosecutor's Office accuses Luka

Luka Modric is again accused of fraud and tax evasion. A story that dates back years and was seen as closed, has returned to the center of attention and has the Croatian midfielder as the protagonist.

The Real Madrid footballer has cheated before the court for the period when he was at Dinamo Zagreb, testifying that he signed documents at the time when he renewed his contracts but also when he left. Modrić's statements, together with Dejan Lovren, were made to save the president of Dinamo Zagreb at the time, Zdravko Mamič.

The latter was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for not declaring 15.5 million euros, but escaped to Bosnia and continues to live there. The court has once again brought back the case for which Modric testified in 2017 and 2018 and will now be investigated for the fraud that the Real star has committed.

These acts have also caused damage of 1.5 million euros to the Croatian state. According to the Croatian criminal code, the "criminal offense of perjury" is punishable by six months to five years in prison.

The ruling against Mamic said he signed personal contracts with players during their early years at Dinamo Zagreb, including Modric and Lovren, forcing them to share profits with him.

After receiving the money from their contracts, they would pay Mamic. The latter claims that part of that money was never paid to him and that Modric and Lovren are "collaborators" in the corruption case against him.

"We met and signed an agreement to share the money. Modric withdrew the money from Tottenham and gave me a part, - claimed Mamic when he spoke to journalists in Bosnia, at the beginning of this month. "No player in history has ever paid a single penny in taxes."
