Somali referee Omar Artan has returned to his homeland after being denied entry to the United States, despite having a US visa and being selected by FIFA to referee matches at the 2026 World Cup.
According to reports, US authorities did not allow him to enter US territory for security reasons, citing suspicions of direct or indirect links to individuals or organizations involved in terrorist activities.
Upon his return to Somalia, Artan was greeted with honors and praise from his compatriots. Local media reports that the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has decided to reward the referee with a large five-bedroom house, equipped with all the necessary conditions.
This gesture by the president is seen as a sign of support for the Somali referee, who experienced great disappointment after the decision of the authorities of the World Cup host country.
Despite this episode, Omar Artan's career continues to be appreciated in the international arena. According to published information, he has been appointed to referee the European Super Cup final, which will take place in August between PSG and Aston Villa.
