UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said today at the 49th UEFA Congress being held in Belgrade that the cooperation between Albania and Serbia in organizing "EURO 2027" for the Under-21 Championship is an extraordinary example of the power of football.
" Football is more than a sport, it is also a mirror and a model of society. It speaks a universal language, which crosses borders, unites communities and inspires dreams. It is not in vain that we look towards the finals of Euro 2027, a competition that will be held in Albania and Serbia. This European Championship serves to show that in European football there are no borders ," said Ceferin.
On Wednesday, the head of the Kosovo Football Federation, Agim Ademi, was seen posing with the Kosovo flag at the Congress premises. This seems to have worried the Serbian organizers, who have reportedly removed it.
The Serbian Football Federation, in a reaction on communication channels, apologized 'to every citizen and every member of the people, especially to compatriots in Kosovo, who felt disturbed and hurt by this lack of attention from the organizer, which was corrected immediately after our reaction,' the response states.
Once again, not even football could reduce Serbian nationalism towards Kosovo, and UEFA seems to be boasting in vain that Albania and Serbia received the green light to co-host the 2027 U-21 Euro.
