The Spanish national team of Luis de la Fuente has chosen to go to the south of the German country. Specifically in the city of Donaueschingen, almost on the border with Switzerland (an hour from Zurich), a place away from the rest of the teams who have decided on much more connected cities. A unique place, very, very close to Lake Constance. Denmark, which will be at the base reference camp Freudenstadt, will be its neighbor.
Spain's chosen venue is an hour and twenty minutes from Stuttgart airport and the small town's stadium is the charming Anton Mall stadium (3,000 spectators). A city that is not the first time hosting a professional team, as Bayern Munich used it in their pre-season in 2009 with Van Gaal as coach.
At the same distance is Freudenstadt, one of the base camps offered by UEFA in the Stuttgart area, which in the end was not chosen by the Spanish delegation. "La Roja" preferred to be quieter and chose Donaueschingen (about 20,000 inhabitants) in the heart of the Black Forest-Baar district. Spain will stay at the spectacular five-star Der Öschberghof, with a golf course, suites and all kinds of luxury and comfort.

It's surprising, as one of UEFA's mandates was to reduce its carbon footprint and be a sustainable tournament. Its aim was to encourage teams to travel by train or bus, Spain but Spain debuts on June 15 in Berlin against Croatia (more than 750 km and 8 hours by road from Donaueschingen).
There is less distance to Gelsenkirchen, the city of the second leg against Italy on June 20 (545 km and a six-hour drive from the venue). On June 24, Spain will play against Albania in Düsseldorf, also far from the base camp of "La Roja" (500 km and about six hours of travel).
Many kilometers and hours of travel that Spain will go through during the group stage, even though Stuttgart airport is 130 kilometers away.
France and Portugal, almost "spies"...
All teams must settle at their headquarters five days before their first game. Hosts Germany will head to Herzogenaurach in Bavaria, the reigning champions, Italy have chosen Iserlohn in North Rhine-Westphalia and finalists England head to Blankenhain in Thuringia.
France has chosen Paderborn, near Dortmund, also in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and almost in neighboring Portugal. Austria is the only one that will be centered in the capital Berlin, although Croatia will be close by, which will be in the northern city of Neuruppin.
