A real earthquake, capable of overturning the last part of the championship. A new scandal shakes the world of football and may have serious consequences in the future of the championship, but also of the national team.
It is "Fecafoot", the Football Federation of Cameroon, which raises its voice, suspending 62 players. This is understood by looking at the list of players who will be able to participate in the final stage of the Cameroon championship that will give the title, but also the qualifications for the continental cups and relegations.
Sixty-two players will not participate in the final stage, at least until they clarify their position. This is the total number of footballers who have been suspended by the local football federation for a reason that leaves no room for doubt: dual identity.
In practice, suspended players are accused of lying about their age and will now have to prove their innocence in order to return to the field.
Among the banned players is Wilfried Natan Duala, officially the youngest player of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, and his teammate Richmond Nji, the championship's top scorer with 12 goals for Victoria United.
The situation is thus complicated with the start of the final phase that will start on March 17 and that risks seeing some of the most anticipated protagonists excluded.
