Initial predictions for Lautaro Martinez's condition have been confirmed by medical examinations. The Argentine striker has suffered a muscle strain in the calf of his left foot, an injury sustained during the match against Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday evening.
According to initial estimates, Martinez is expected to be out for at least three weeks. His condition will be reassessed in a week, but currently his presence in the derby against Milan, which will be played on March 8, is considered practically impossible.
This injury is a significant blow for the striker and for Inter, as in the minimum scenario he will miss five matches. However, depending on the severity of the muscle damage, the number of missed matches could go up to nine.
Currently, Lautaro Martinez will not be available to coach Christian Kivu for the matches against Lecce in the championship, Bodo/Glimt in the return leg of the Champions League, Genoa on February 28, as well as Como in the first semi-final of the Cup on March 3. The derby with Milan remains in strong doubt, with the likelihood that the black and blue captain will not be ready for the super challenge of the Italian championship.
If Inter manages to overturn the result against Bodo/Glimt and secure passage to the 1/8 stage of the Champions League, the calendar could become even heavier, adding other matches to the Argentine's possible list of absences.
A possible return for Martinez could come in the match against Atalanta on March 15 or against Fiorentina on March 22. If he is fit for either of these matches, Argentina could call him up for the "Finalissima" against Spain on March 27 and the friendly with Qatar on March 31.
However, if the next medical check-up confirms a more serious injury, the player could also use the international break to fully recover. In this scenario, Inter would have him available for the match against Roma on 4 April, while the decision will depend on the evolution of his physical condition and the situation in the Serie A standings.
