Asked why French coaches are not so popular in Europe's major leagues, French national team coach Didier Deschamps says it's because they don't speak foreign languages.
According to Deschamps, French coaches are skilled enough in their profession but do not undertake to go abroad because of the language as communication is essential for the coaching profession.
" French coaches are underrated for several different reasons. In France, we have many foreign coaches, but we also have many locals who are unemployed. Foreign colleagues who come to France are accompanied by a large staff while the opposite happens with the French. We have another problem related to foreign languages.
We are not good enough in this aspect and this is a defect for this craft. In France, a foreign coach is allowed and not forced to speak in French, but this does not happen in Spain, Italy or England. If you don't speak the language of the country where you work, then they don't even consider you, this is at least the conclusion I came from my experience ", said Deschamps.
