Atletico Madrid continued their positive momentum in the Spanish championship, winning their fourth consecutive La Liga title. The team led by Diego Simeone defeated Getafe 1-0 at the “Metropolitan” stadium, in the match valid for the 28th week.
“Los Colçoneros” started the match in an ideal way and took the lead in the 8th minute. Argentine defender Nahuel Molina scored a spectacular goal with a powerful shot from distance, surprising Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.
After the quick goal, Atletico took control of the game and ended the first half with a 1-0 lead.
Things got even worse for the visitors in the 55th minute when Abdel Abqar was sent off for a challenge on Alexander Schorloth. The Moroccan left his team with one man down, while the Norwegian Atletico striker was only shown a yellow card.
Despite the numerical advantage, the Madrid team failed to score again, but maintained the lead until the end of the match.
With this victory, Atletico Madrid climbs to 57 points and holds third place in the La Liga standings. The Madrid team's attention now shifts to the return match in the Champions League against Tottenham, after Atletico won the first leg at home with a score of 5-2.
