The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has presented considerable evidence and revealed details from the investigative file during the preliminary trial against former President Ilir Meta and four other defendants, requesting that the case be transferred to trial on the merits.
According to SPAK, the investigation is based on a large volume of documentary and financial evidence, including transaction analyses, economic balance sheets and international letters of inquiry, mainly from the United States of America, related to the lobbying issue. The prosecution has argued that these materials create well-founded suspicions of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets by the defendants.
After the hearing, Monika Kryemadhi reacted to the media, announcing that SPAK had also released the list of evidence at the end of the preliminary process. She stated that the list contains over 40 pages of material, including interviews and media articles, which, according to her, should not be treated as evidence in the procedural sense.
Kryemadhi also criticized the way the prosecution presented the report, describing it as repetitive in some parts, while using ironic tones towards the process. " The prosecutor finished the report, but it was a repetition of the same elements to increase the volume of materials ," she said.
" In the end, we were given a list of evidence, about 40 or so pages long, containing interviews, articles and newspapers. For the first time, even during the dictatorship, these were not called evidence, but the interviewer was called and the testimony was taken in the form of evidence ," said Kryemadhi.
Meanwhile, SPAK has insisted that the evidence administered during the investigation is sufficient to bring the case to trial, emphasizing that the file contains detailed data on suspected financial movements and unjustified assets.
