The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, has reacted after the serious tragedy that occurred in Italy, where four members of the Albanian Kola family lost their lives from carbon monoxide poisoning.
"Very, very sad news of the tragedy of the Albanian Kola family, from Grykshi i Peqinit, who lived for years in Porcari, Lucchesia, Italy. May they rest in peace," Balla wrote in his reaction.
The serious incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the family's apartment on Via Galgani, in Porcari, province of Lucca. According to Italian media, the cause of the tragedy is suspected to have been a carbon monoxide leak due to a malfunctioning heating system.
The victims are Arti Kola, 48, his wife Jonida, 43, son Hajdar, 22, and daughter Jessica, 15. Another family member, the head of the family's brother, managed to escape, but is in critical condition in hospital.
The Italian prosecutor's office has seized the apartment and launched an investigation to verify whether the boiler was installed and maintained according to legal regulations. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full causes of the incident.
The tragedy has shocked the Albanian community in Italy and has sparked numerous expressions of condolence in Albania as well.
