The lawyer of the 68-year-old Ilia Drini, who passed away in the premises of the Criminal Court of Tirana this morning, told the media that the elderly man was accused of stalking by his former co-habitant.
"I have been following him since the first report in 2020. He was reported by his ex-partner after he was stalking her. Her family members pressured her. I don't know why they would meet today", said the lawyer, Ndue Pjetra.
The file states that the former partner of the 68-year-old tried to kill herself due to violence and pressure.
It is known that the victim was sitting on the bench when he had a heart attack. When the ambulance went to the institution of justice, it was learned that Ilia Drini had passed away.
According to the lawyer, the charge against him was changed from "stalking a person" to "causing suicide" without holding the relevant hearings.
"Trials should not be postponed, 3 months in a row... He was initially accused of stalking, but then of causing suicide. The event happened in 2020. It was his girlfriend, or co-habitant, I don't know very well, she had filed a criminal complaint incited by others to take his property. He has been living alone for 3 years, he was a professor of martial arts, a very honorable man", declared the lawyer of the deceased.
The claim of the latter is that the former cohabitant of the 68-year-old, "prompted" by others, filed a criminal lawsuit against him to take his property. The lawyer even says that her family members wanted to marry her at all costs!
We emphasize that the former cohabitant, based on the file, is 37 years old. In her testimony, she stated that as a result of her severe psychological condition, she had tried to commit suicide with an overdose of medication.
"There was something, he knew on the 1st, but there could be some pressure from others. I think it should be investigated by the Prosecutor's Office, the phone records should be seen, they definitely wanted to marry him to his cohabitant. He was not suffering at all, there was nothing, powerful, 68 years old. A hearing was held before, but the court had notified the lawyer, the family members of the cohabitant claimed to marry her at all costs. February 1, 2024 was the first hearing. The file was submitted on October 27, 2022. We are still in hearing preliminary. Sir, we have told you that the judges who move from one district to another must finish the cases themselves. The session was not opened because the judges left, another one was coming. 30 days is the deadline... We have only received notice of the date of the session, we knew the case was closed, we got this information after the subpoena came for January 1.

The lawyer also says that 13 of his clients have died so far while awaiting trial.
"We were informed and we are waiting for these things. We informed all the institutions that justice delayed like this will end. So far over 13 of my clients have died awaiting trial. They say 6 years to 7 years, only from the first instance in the Appeal. The court is really difficult, they should come out on Saturday and Sunday to hold trials, not postpone the trials for 5 months", said the lawyer.
