December 8, Azem Hajdari's son: Youth must seize the future

This Monday marks December 8, Youth Day, and in the context of this day, Azem Hajdari's successor, his son, Azem, was also present on the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin".

The son of the historic leader of December brought a personal and comparative perspective between his generation and the generation that led the changes in the 1990s.

He spoke about his father figure, his philosophy of action, and the challenges of today's youth, connecting history with current political and social reality.

" Azem Hajdari, my father, was a person who in parallel wanted to snatch his future for good, and young people today, if they don't try to snatch their future, someone else will snatch it from them. It's that simple. My father was of the principle of 'making things happen and then fixing them along the way'. That's why he became a leader even earlier in life, despite the conditions not being there, he made it happen and then, with the burden of responsibility on his back, prepared himself to succeed. I also suggest that every person make something happen, and then prepare along the way. Because by always being cautious, there will never be action, and other factors will weigh them down ," he said.

He said that if today's youth, the so-called Generation Z, had been around during that period, change would have come even faster than it did.

" What would the situation have been like if at that time we had this generation Z youth that we have today? I think that this generation called Z, and of which I am also a part, would have overthrown that regime even faster. Because generation Z is much better equipped with different factors to face these situations; they are more informed and more integrated in many aspects. I think that their impulsiveness, when certain interests are affected, is even greater than that of the generation of that time. What is currently happening has to do with distraction, which is a separate factor. There is a tendency of the current generation not to get involved in politics. I think there is a need for revolution and change, because a state and a people must be in evolution and not stay in place ," he said.

He stated that the country is once again approaching a situation where, according to him, the youth can react.

" Things were tighter then, and if the situation gets that tight again, the same thing could happen again, and even bigger and grander things could happen. The situation is heading that way. If the youth, and not only them, do not influence politics even a little, by giving of themselves to the community, then politics will influence them. It is inevitable ," he said.

December 8 is Youth Day in Albania, where today marks 35 years since the time when students and lecturers of the University of Tirana, residents of Student City among them and Azem Hajdari, became initiators of peaceful protests that brought pluralism, the fall of communism and the birth of democracy, with the famous cry: "We love Albania like all of Europe."
