
The Customs Directorate has reacted after the news that about 800 tons of dangerous metallurgical waste are suspected to have been sent from the Port of Durrës to Thailand.
The Customs Directorate informs that within the framework of the cooperation with ÚCO and on the basis of the information exchanged with the Basel Convention and OLAF, they have identified a suspicious cargo, which left the Port of Durrës and was transshipped in Trieste and Piraeus .
The Customs Directorate says that very soon they will verify whether the cargo is waste or not.
"DPD, OLAF and other structures involved are actively cooperating to locate the cargo during transport and to verify if the cargo is waste" , the response states.
While Thai officials, after receiving information that the containers had been loaded onto ships in Albania at the beginning of July, said they are working with their counterparts in Albania and Singapore, where the ships will dock later this month, to stop the shipments.
