Could Iran strike Albania? Expert: NATO intervenes, missiles would be
The Director of the Marshall Center in Albania, Ermal Jauri

The head of the Marshall Center in Albania, Ermal Jauri, analyzed on the show "Review" the possibility of a ballistic missile launched by Iran hitting Albanian territory. He explained that from a theoretical point of view, such a scenario is conceivable due to the capabilities of Iranian missiles and the distance between the two countries.

According to him, some Iranian ballistic missiles have a range of up to 2,000–2,500 kilometers, while the distance between Iran and Tirana is about 2,000 kilometers. This makes it theoretically possible for a missile to travel this distance.

However, Jauri stressed that in practice such an attack does not pose a real threat to Albania due to the air defense system of NATO and allied countries in the region. He explained that a missile launched from Iran towards Albania would have to pass over the territory of Turkey and Greece, two NATO member states that have advanced missile defense systems.

These systems, like Patriot and NASAMS, are built to identify and intercept missiles entering the airspace of the countries where they are deployed.

Jauri also noted that Albania benefits from NATO's collective defense system. Although the country does not have fighter jets to protect its airspace, the Alliance carries out patrols and intervention in case of threats.

"In theory, yes, Iran could hit Albania. Why? Because a ballistic missile has a range of about 2,000 to 2,500 kilometers and the distance from Iran to Tirana is approximately 2,000 kilometers. So, in theory, a missile could cover this distance. But in practice, this is almost impossible. For a missile to be launched from Iran to Albania, its trajectory would take about 20 minutes or even more. During this time, it would have to pass over the territory of two NATO member countries, Turkey and Greece. Both of these countries have advanced missile defense systems, such as Patriot and NASAMS, which are American systems and are designed precisely to intercept ballistic missiles. The moment a missile would enter the airspace of these countries, it would be identified and neutralized. Moreover, Albania is a NATO member country. Although we do not have air forces to protect our airspace, "This protection is carried out within NATO. NATO's response time for the protection of Albania's airspace is very fast, around 2 to 6 minutes. This means that NATO aircraft from their bases in the region can intervene immediately and neutralize any missile that may have passed the defense systems of Turkey or Greece. Therefore, in practice it is totally impossible and poses no real risk for Iran to hit Albania with missiles. Even from the experience we have seen in Iran's attacks on Israel, a single missile cannot penetrate a good air defense system. To have a probability of a missile passing through, Iran would have to launch dozens of missiles simultaneously. Even in such a scenario, NATO's missile defense systems and air forces would be able to intervene and neutralize the threat long before the missile reached its target," he said.
