At the request of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, a prison sentence has been executed for the former President of the Order of Dentists Nikoll Deda.
He was sent for trial in November 2024 on suspicion of misuse of funds and employing his family members, but the arrest came after the prosecution suspected that there were important reasons against Deda that jeopardized the obtaining or authenticity of evidence and there was a risk that he would flee.
"At the request of the Tirana Prosecution, the security measure 'Arrest in prison' is assigned to the former President of the Order of Dentists, ND for 3 criminal offenses."
At the request of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Tirana, the measure "Arrest in prison" was executed for citizen ND for committing the criminal offenses "Theft committed by abuse of office", "Abuse of office" and "Actions in contradiction with the court's decision" provided for by articles 135, 248 and 321 of the Criminal Code.
This citizen was reported by citizen AG to the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Section for misappropriation of funds and for acting contrary to the law by increasing the budget of the 'Order of Dentists' from year to year.
In 2020, where the budget was 38,500,000 Lek, in 2021 it increased by 13,500,000 Lek more. In 2022, the budget increased to 125,837,000 Lek because it also purchased a building for the institution, including the investment it made within the building.
The investigative actions resulted in reasonable suspicions that the entire budget increase was intended to misuse funds and personal benefits for oneself or third parties.
The Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Tirana, considers that there is reasonable suspicion, based on evidence, that the suspect ND has committed the elements of the criminal offenses "Theft committed by abuse of office", "Abuse of office" and "Actions in contradiction with the court's decision" provided for in Articles 135, 248 and 321 of the Criminal Code.
According to the Information report, citizen ND has fled and evaded the investigative actions carried out by the judicial police, making the risk of escape and evasion of criminal responsibility evident and concrete. The citizen in question, in his capacity as President of the Order of Dentists, allowed the employment of people without criteria, his family members, with the aim of manipulating the decision-making of the National Council since 2016.
Despite being a defendant and currently in court charged under Article 320 of the Criminal Code in another proceeding, he has taken active actions in abuse of office to further concentrate powers in his hands by exploiting the structures of the USSH.
"The Prosecution Body assesses that it is necessary to take a personal security measure against citizen Nikoll Deda, as there are important reasons that put at risk the obtaining or authenticity of evidence and there is a risk that he will leave," the prosecution announced.
