Road accidents in the first month of the year left behind 229 injured and killed.
Compared to January of the previous year, accidents have doubled, from 84 to 162. The main cause has been classified as the behavior of drivers, most of whom are in the 25-34 age group.
"25-35 years old is the age that increases self-confidence in driving, it seems to them the only one more capable, they take it more easily, it is also the age that has other actions such as the use of alcoholic beverages or other substances illegal which increase the risk of accidents" - Arben Luzi, road expert.
But in addition to the behavior of the drivers, the road expert also lists the road signs among the causes of accidents, which he says needs improvement.
"The road that is problematic for me today is a dark spot for accidents, it is the old road Kamëz-Fushë-Krujë. If you look at this axis, it seems as if it is complete with road signs, but according to the decision of the Council of Ministers, road signs are placed 150 m before the danger point, so it is not the placement of a 60 km/h sign in a visible place and this entire road is assumed to it is 60, this must be repeated after every crossing" - said Luzi.
Pedestrians are also the cause of road accidents. In January, 16.0% of such cases occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior. And for this reason, the traffic police has started applying fines to pedestrians who violate traffic rules.
"Pedestrians are being punished and I believe that this will bring about a different education regarding pedestrians because we have always learned that civic education regarding the implementation of road traffic rules leaves much to be desired and the majority of accidents are you watch are part of this civic education" - concluded Luzi.
Tirana and Lezha are the two counties with the highest number of road accidents during the month of January./ TCH
