Tragic accident in Saranda, Softa: Road safety is the state's obligation,

Safety expert Fatjon Softa said that the problem of road accidents is not just a matter of statistics, but a reflection of deep shortcomings in the way traffic and road safety are managed in our country.

According to him, although the media and justice institutions often pay attention to serious cases, especially during certain periods of the year when the numbers increase significantly, there is a lack of a genuine preventive and strategic approach to address these problems at their root.

Softa emphasized that the prosecution, in most cases, analyzes the consequences, prosecutes those responsible, and refers to the factors that led to accidents, but there is a lack of institutional commitment to take concrete steps that would sustainably minimize such events.

He also stated that over 80% of accidents occur as a result of driver error, but secondary factors such as dilapidated infrastructure, lack of lighting, inadequate signage, drug use, and poor traffic control play an equally important role.

"You have often warned the media about increased cases of accidents that occur during certain periods of the year where the factors are normally analyzed, when the prosecution analyzes them, it starts to assign responsibility, but not only that, but you must also prevent such events.

In statistics, the largest number of accidents is due to driver error, in 80% of cases, but there are certainly other reasons such as: infrastructure, the condition of vehicles, the use of narcotics, as well as traffic control and the way we manage it.

For example, we still use traditional methods, or we have acquired some intelligent cars, and only when we enter E-Albania do we see that we have a fine, which does not prevent this, it is only a fine. And the cases of police officers who stay behind cars on the highway, risking their lives to catch these individuals who exceed the speed limit.

I continue to say that highways need a linear system with warning cameras, giving you a 250-150 m warning depending on the speed of the road, telling you that you are under camera surveillance, and there should be a speeding tutor that forces you to feel the weight of speeding or the revocation of your driving license.

The second is infrastructure, national roads allow for mass movement, but also for vehicle speed to some extent, but they must be illuminated, and in cases where there is no lighting, signs and phosphorescent lines must be installed, but in many cases there are road axes that do not have these according to the norms.

"This is a problem, if the paint is not phosphorescent due to rain and weak paint, these become a source of accidents and this also affects the culture of a driver," Softa told "Syri TV".
