After hundreds of tons of corn for animals imported from Serbia, which resulted in aflatoxin, now another product from the same country has again been contaminated with aflatoxin type B1. This time it is a concentrate for birds raised for meat.
A large amount of concentrate for birds raised for meat, imported from Serbia, has resulted in aflatoxin type B1.
According to official data, the amount of contaminated product is 167 kilograms, without other lots in circulation. Aflatoxin B1 is one of the most dangerous toxins not only for animal health but also for humans, because this toxin has the property of passing into the product and is not broken down in any processing process. Aflatoxin is categorized as one of the most dangerous toxins for our health, consumption of products with aflatoxin can cause permanent damage to the human brain, but it is also considered a toxin that causes tumor diseases.
"Its presence in animals is transmitted to the product and from the product to humans, which brings serious consequences for humans: cirrhosis, necrosis, liver cancer because it is a toxin and it is the liver that is affected first. But it also has some side effects because it affects the brain that have consequences for humans," said veterinarian Ymer Elezi.
The Serbian farmer once again made a mistake not in producing the product, but in storing it, as he stored the food in damp places, which are the ideal environment for mold to grow.
"If the grains are kept in cool places without humidity, because if there is humidity then we have to be prepared to have mold and aflatoxin," he said.
The AKU kept the quantity of dangerous bird food blocked at the Hanint i Hoti border crossing, after the results of laboratory analyses at ISUV, based on the agreement, a decision will be made whether this product will be destroyed or returned to its country of origin, Serbia.
The samples collected within the framework of the National Plan have been subjected to analysis at the Food and Veterinary Safety Institute.
