Athens has been alerted by the presence of the Turkish warship "Anadolu" in Albanian waters.
The Greek media have echoed the Albania-Turkey military cooperation, stating that Athens is monitoring these reports. "To Vima" writes that the appearance of "Anadolou" in Albania signals that Turkey is militarily allied with Albania.
The Turkish Ambassador in Tirana Tayya Atay together with the Albanian Deputy Minister of Defense Enkelejd Joti visited Anadolu anchored outside Vlora. Albanian and Turkish commandos were also trained on the island of Sazan, this uninhabited island was once a naval base for the former Soviet Union (during the Cold War). A joint exercise of 'Neptune Strike', between our Italian, Spanish, Turkish and Romanian military ships together with the Albanian ones was carried out in the Albanian waters about 14 miles from the island of Sazan. The joint exercise took place in the period 25 - 31 October 2024.
The military forces of the participating units operated from the central Mediterranean to the Adriatic Sea, to the North and Baltic Seas, including air operations across Central Europe, and then air-to-ground exercises in the Baltic Sea region, also with the new member of Alliance, Sweden. The activities were executed in cooperation with the "Amphib" group ATG Anadolu and this has alarmed the Greeks.
