The Court of Special Appeal has decided in the Counseling Chamber not to accept the appeal of the family members of the victims of January 21.
The family members had appealed the decision of SPAK, which transferred their complaint to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.
With this decision, the case of January 21 will not be investigated by the Special Prosecutor's Office, ultimately passing it to the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana.
Even earlier, the families of the victims of January 21 have expressed their disbelief that the case can be resolved in a regular court.
During the protest of January 21, 2011, Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj were killed.
In connection with the events of January 21, the former Chief of the Guard of the Republic Ndrea Prendi was investigated, as well as several guards, who are now all free.
What happened on January 21, 2011?
The demonstration of January 21 was the culmination of a long political commitment of the opposition led by Edi Rama, which since the fall of 2009 was following the cause against the government with the motto "Open the boxes or leave!".
At the beginning of January 2011, in an investigative show, the video of former Deputy Prime Minister Ilir Meta and his subordinate, the late Dritan Prifti, talking about some concessions in exchange for a sum of money, was published.
Based on this video, the opposition led by Rama called the Albanians for a demonstration against the government exactly on January 21, 201. The demonstration started violently and there were clashes between the participants and the police, while in the afternoon firearms were also used in the direction of the demonstrators from inside the prime minister's fence. Investigations at the time revealed that it was the Guard of the Republic that shot, and a video published by journalist Artan Hoxha confirmed that at least one of the murders was carried out by the Guard of that time.
