Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu says it is a luxury to compete in politics when political opponents are arrested. Commenting on the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj, Spahiu says that in these 34 years, there have never been so many arrests and seizures for a political party in an election year.
On the show 'Frontline', Spahiu says that it is a luxury to run in elections and have SPAK arrest all your political opponents.
" In 34 years of elections, it has happened that in the electoral year there have been so many arrests and seizures for a political party. Today, being in politics is a great luxury, when it has ever happened in 100 years, to enter the elections and have SPAK arrest all your opponents. This is called having a great electoral gift. The fact is that in the time frame that after 2 and a half months, Albanians will vote ," says Spahiu.
Regarding the case of Mayor Veliaj, Spahiu says that the reaction of Prime Minister Rama and the Socialist Party is delayed.
" Rama and everyone else, at least all of us, have anticipated that security measures will be taken against Veliaj. I think that the reaction of Rama and the SP is delayed. Only Rama understands and therefore denies that this reaction to SPAK should have preceded it. I am somewhat surprised that after several actions were taken, after several procedural stages were taken, after the arrest was made, this reaction is taking place ," Spahiu continued.
For Spahiu, under no circumstances would Veliaj be able to politically attack Rama.
" Rama would be punished by Veliaj only in one case, if Veliaj at the right time and place had created a new political party, a new political grouping, had preceded a kind of abandonment from his own party and had been trained to take a different stance ," said Spahiu.
