Aulon Kalaja "leaves Berisha in the lurch": January 21, the darkest

Journalist Aulon Kalaja has described "January 21" as the darkest event in the history of Albanian democracy.

Even though he won the elections in the ranks of the DP, Kalaja seems to have left Berisha in the lurch, who constantly justifies the event.

" Let's be realistic, it's an event that has bled the boulevard. That is, since the year after the April 2 massacre, without a doubt this is the blackest event. I have participated in protests, I have organized protests and the standard of protests is to bleed the boulevard, I expressed it even then, I was a journalist for another television station. Normally it's a very serious event. I don't believe that justice should be served now. It's been 15 years since justice should have spoken about this issue ," Kalaja said on "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli, on A2 CNN.

He then added that he met Aleks Nika's uncle and handed him the footage of the protest and the moment of the shooting on "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard.

" That gentleman that you had a direct connection with. I gave him the footage when I worked at Ora television back then, about the deceased. Mr. Mark came to me. I took it from the archive and gave it to him because he was interested in this issue. On the other hand, Strasbourg has spoken without a doubt. Strasbourg is the most important court, without a doubt, it has said that the entire chain of command that carried out this event should be investigated and punished ," Kalaja said.

But according to the journalist, there is another side to the January 21 protest that needs to be discussed, where Kalaja blames the Socialist Party, then in opposition, for the way it organized the rally, which was prone to violence and the destruction of institutions.

" But on the other hand, there was a violent organization on January 21. I was aware of how the Socialist Party had thrown a lot of money at that protest and had paid for buses from all over Albania. People who were not simply protesters, but were people who were paid for every protest. They were the most problematic people in certain cities, who were recruited for this protest. It may have cost somewhere around 300,000 euros. Well, that kind of protest that took place on January 21, because all the people who were problematic during the protests were taken and given sticks, so they were equipped with sticks and other things. And it was not a protest, it was a demonstration. The difference between a protest and a demonstration is very big. So, a demonstration means demonstrating violence. And it was a scripted protest, which we saw a few days ago how the opposition leader of that time, today's Prime Minister Edi Rama, expressed what he wanted to do. "this type of protest represented ," Kalaja declared.
