The National Crime Agency in Britain says it has removed from social platforms about 12 thousand posts advertising boat trips to the United Kingdom by criminal groups, including Albanians.
Sky News reports that the National Crime Agency (NCA) has stepped up efforts to disrupt organized gangs that use online platforms to recruit migrants to cross the Channel in small boats.
"A plan to understand how criminals exploit desperate victims to come to the UK was launched in December 2021 with internet giants including X, TikTok, YouTube and Meta - the owner of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
About 3,300 posts, pages or accounts were removed or suspended by April 2023, while a crackdown over the past year has deleted almost 9,000 posts, a total of almost 12,000 by the end of June," writes the British media.
An ad featuring an image of two speedboat engines reads in Albanian: “We take people to the UK by speedboat. It's a job done within 45 minutes.
"Passage is 100% guaranteed (safe). Don't miss [this opportunity]. Soon we will be ready [to leave]. Write privately.”
Another, showing a map outlining the route from Albania to the Channel with a red line, offers "100% guaranteed (safe) trips with us", adding: "Recommend our trips to your friend and earn €500".
The NCA's head of organized crime immigration threats, Dan Barcroft, said: “Social media is key to how these organized crime groups operate, so taking them down has a direct effect on disrupting operations. and their criminal activity".
"We have seen cases where they have had to change their tactics as a result, and recent months have seen us take direct action against individuals suspected of posting this type of material."
