Tragjas residents protest again: We will not allow the oligarchs to take our

Residents of the village of Tragjas in Vlora have protested again this Saturday, opposing water theft.

The National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency has begun work to collect Tragjas water and send it to the coastal resorts of Dhërmi through a water pipeline.

Work on this project has begun, but the community has not been informed of any details. Residents say there have been no information boards or consultation meetings to discuss this development with them.

"I just came from Chicago after seeing the news that the police are attacking my fellow villagers. I am very touched because I grew up here. If they take away our Izvor water, we are dead, the village of Tragjas is dead. We will not allow the oligarchs to take away our water," said Sultana Ferhati.

Residents' lawyer Suela Konxhoni said that documents are being collected in every office and a lawsuit is being prepared against 4 institutions; the Municipality of Vlora, Himara, the Water Supply and Sewerage Agency and the Vlora Water Basin.

"From a legal point of view, what documents one institution has, another does not, so we suspect that a series of violations have been committed. We are currently investigating from the administrative side and will soon turn to the Administrative Court of First Instance in Lushnje. We will sue the Municipality of Himara, the Municipality of Vlora, the Water Supply and Sewerage Agency and the Water Basin, depending on the Prefecture," said the lawyer contracted by the residents.

Independent experts hired by the residents have conducted measurements at the Izvor spring, which show that the amount of water is much less than described in the water supply project. All of this evidence and facts will be made available to the prosecution.

"We have made measurements and it turns out that in March the flow to the source is 940 cubic meters and not 2000 cubic meters as stated in the designer's report. This means that the water supply could dry up the source and damage the ecosystem," said the lawyer.
