I am grateful for the incredible partnership we have.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, gave a speech to the media, during an event organized at the Pyramid in the capital, where he thanked the Albanians for their hospitality.
During his speech, Blinken talked about the evolution of Albania, from a dictatorial country that was isolated by dictator Enver Hoxha for almost 50 years, to the democracy it is today. He added that America has invested a lot in our country to help develop democracy in the country.
" Good day everyone, thank you for a wonderful welcome to the country of Shqiponja. I feel the warm atmosphere outside and the warmth here. It is an important moment and an appreciation for your work. I thank Mr. David for all the affairs of the embassy and Mr. Edi for the support and colors he has given to Tirana during his time as mayor.
People have told me that this building is dedicated to a dictator who took the Albanians to concentration camps. But today look around, this place is filled with light, there is coffee, it is a living symbol, of the present. This building was rebuilt with the investment of the Albanian-American fund. I am grateful for the extraordinary partnership we have ," he said.
Blinken, among others, listed some of the famous names of Albanians who have made excellent careers in the world, such as Dua Lipa or Mira Murati, as well as Albanian businesses that have succeeded in America.
" Last year a record number of tourists visited Albania, your country qualified for the European. I will come during the cup finals and maybe I can help you. You see the strong ties of our countries. Young Americans are dancing all night with Dua Lipën, the head of AI is Mira Murati. One of the best restaurants is Albanian ," said Blinken.
Blinken expressed that he is proud of the Albania-US partnership in welcoming Afghans who left Afghanistan after the Taliban took over. Thanking Albania for the hospitality of the Afghans, Blinken also showed cases of some of the Afghan girls who have already managed to get an education and have ideas to open their own businesses.
" Some of you have welcomed Afghan families and this shows the generosity of the Albanians and the welcome. It's not just the fact that you're welcoming them with open arms but how you're welcoming them. I want to tell you that it was exciting for me that among the Afghan refugees there were 2 parents husband and wife who had 5 children and each of these 5 children were number 1 in their classes. But when the Taliban came to power, girls could not go to school. However, they tried to find ways to teach their daughters.
While they were in Albania, they learned English fluently. One of the sisters will be in the fashion sector, the other in the business sector. I gave them ideas to work on in their fashion business. You can see the extraordinary hope in their eyes, the hope that the Taliban took away from them is reviving after they came to Albania. I am proud of our partnership to help Afghans ," said Blinken.
After the speech at Piramida, Antony Blinken will hold a meeting with the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, it is not known how long the meeting will last or what will be discussed there.
