The Albanian army does not have any significant power on a global scale. For all indicators, from human resources to weaponry, geography and money invested, we rank 90th in the world, similar to countries like Zambia, Ireland and Honduras. But what gives us strength, even with modest numbers, is the presence in the North Atlantic Alliance.
"The Albanian army has been completely neglected for 30 years, at the base of Kuçova we had it as something extraordinary, but compared to the base of Kuçova in the time of communism, it is something modest. But Albania needs to have a more prepared army than that, above all and within NATO. It needs to go to a minimum of 2% of GDP within NATO. Although Albania is not in danger, it should be dignified with its army as modest as it can be", says Ledion Krisafi, expert on International Relations for Euronews.
In our region, the first military power is Serbia, which maintains the 56th place in the world, and we are behind it, in the list that is closed by Kosovo in the 135th place. If we will see in the face of means and personnel; our fleet is several times smaller than that of Serbia, which is seen as a threat and instability factor for the Balkans, and especially for Kosovo.
"I cannot speak of classical rest, but I speak of instability, since as we see the global balances are moving rapidly. "Signals from Moscow, Bosnia, and Serbia have arrived in the region several times," says Krisafi.
