The heavy rains have caused extensive damage. Shepherd Shkëlqim Çaushaj said that this situation is very serious, not only for the residents of Saranda, but for anyone who has been affected.
He said that many small livestock, a figure of 700 heads in the shepherds' stables, were flooded after the embankment burst.
Çaushaj states that 40 heads of cattle drowned and he found the stable under water.
"A catastrophe like this has never happened before. We've been living here for about 30 years. We've never had an embankment break like this. About 40 people have drowned."
"When we arrived at the stable, it was full of water and we couldn't save anyone. We ran away from the water. We don't know what to do. The state helped us, thank you," he said.
