Lawyer Indrit Sefa, speaking about the conviction in Greece of judge Irena Gjoka, stated that cases judged by her are never returned. He emphasized that such a thing cannot happen, as Albanian legislation does not provide for it.
"The cases that this judge has reviewed are no longer returned. Albanian legislation does not have it because she was in office. That's how it falls to her that there are Supreme Court judges who have been convicted of corruption. Now, should all the trials that this Supreme Court judge who has been convicted of corruption be returned?" said Sefa, in the "Off the Record" studio, on A2CNN.
Sefa further explained why the verification of Judge Irena Gjoka took so long, which according to him was a long institutional procedure.
"The General Prosecutor's Office sends a registered letter to the Greek state through the Ministry of Justice and awaits the response. The response has been received, it has been administered, a conclusion has been reached and we are also interested in the conclusion of the prosecution. I think, as requested by the prosecution, which has addressed it directly to the High Judicial Council, it has addressed it with the sole purpose of telling it that I have no element to terminate this duty or to take it to criminal proceedings, but it is your duty. Second, read the decriminalization form. It says: have you had any deportations in the last 10 years? Which means deportations, not detentions. I am saying deportations in the last 10 years and the form was completed in 2016. The last 10 years are 2006. There was no legal obligation to declare it. Then it says: do you have any final criminal convictions in any European Union country or not? Here the lady has signed no. Now, in case it is proven, as if only one act, I am saying from the judicial procedure, the lady has "Having knowledge or, more precisely, having taken the lawyer to court, in my assessment there are elements of a criminal offense ," said Sefa.
