The "Momo Challenge" was a challenge that spread through social media. It was reported that children and teenagers were being bullied by a user named Momo into performing a variety of dangerous tasks, including violent attacks, self-harm, harm to others and suicide.
The reports were based on stories of teenagers being targeted by people who introduced themselves as a character called Momo, trying to convince people to contact them through their phones. As with challenges such as the Blue Whale, players are instructed to complete a series of tasks. Refusal to do so was met with threats and gruesome photographs.
This game in 2019 managed to create a worldwide panic. Police forces, schools and organizations dedicated to the safety of consumers on the Internet issued at the time a large number of tips on how to protect children from falling into these online traps.
