President Bajram Begaj, today, on International Mother Language Day, conveyed the message of preserving the Albanian language by Albanians in the Diaspora.
The initiative of the Head of State was responded to by representatives of the Albanian community living in different countries of the world, who preserve their native language across generations, while respecting linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
A group of Albanian children in the Diaspora conveyed through their interpretation the verses of the poem "The Albanian Language" by Mitrush Kutel, one of the Albanian activists who, in addition to contributing to the country's economy, collecting folk tales and teaching the language through translations into Albanian, was also dedicated to the publication and distribution of Albanian books for expatriates.
The President of the Republic is concerned with preserving the mother tongue and passing it on to children from Albanian families living abroad, also encouraging the opening of as many Albanian schools as possible in Albanian communities around the world through voluntary and institutional initiatives.
The Head of State considers such an effort vital for the preservation of the Albanian language as one of the fundamental elements of our national identity.
"The Albanian language is the fundamental feature of our national identity, which must unite us in the effort to preserve, inherit and enrich it," the Head of State wrote.
International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide this year as a Silver Jubilee, as it marks 25 years since its celebration, and the focus is on efforts to promote linguistic diversity, protect endangered languages, and encourage multilingual education.
