"January 21 file", the Supreme Court withdraws for a decision

The Supreme Court has withdrawn to make a decision regarding the "January 21" file.

In the Supreme Court, the request of the family members of Aleks Nika, killed in the protest of January 21, 2011, was examined, who request that the file of "January 21" be transferred to SPAK.

Prosecutor Alfred Shehu in his statement stated that SPAK has not registered a criminal complaint but only a complaint recording, stressing among other things that for this reason the appeal of Rajmonda Nika, the heir of Aleks Nika, who was killed in the 21st protest, should not be accepted. January in 2011.

Shehu also emphasized that in order to bring charges, the prosecutor must conduct an in-depth investigation. Also, the prosecutor said that despite the serious event, it does not result that the event was carried out in the form of special cooperation that is the competence of SPAK.

The "January 21" investigative file is related to the protest held on January 21, 2011 in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where four people were killed. Today the Supreme Court decides whether the file will be transferred to SPAK or will remain in the hands of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana.

But the relatives of Aleks Nika, for whose murder for 13 years there is no news from the investigations of the capital's prosecutor's office, said that SPAK should focus on investigations also against the former minister of the interior, Lulzim Basha, the former prime minister Sali Berisha and the former commander of the Guard, Ndrea Prendi.

This attitude of the Nika family, but also of the relatives of the other three killed on the boulevard, Hekuran Dedas, Ziver Veizit and Faik Myrtaj, was not accepted by SPAK with the conclusion that the case was being investigated by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.

In November 2023, the Strasbourg Court announced the next decision for Alex Nika, finding as a violation the failure to investigate and the failure to investigate his murder. For years, the prosecutor's office of Tirana has opened and suspended several times the investigation into two murders, that of Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika.
