The General Directorate of Prisons has provided full details of the operation to transfer convicts and detainees from the Fushë-Krujë prison, due to the reconstruction of the institution. According to official information, 142 people have been transferred, of whom 85 have been sent to the Peqin prison and 57 to the Durrës prison.

The operation was carried out with increased security measures and involved 340 police officers and 48 specialized vehicles. For the first time, aerial surveillance drones, anti-drone systems and digital communication for each officer were widely used in such a process. All movements were monitored in real time through body cameras and vehicles.

The Directorate of Prisons confirms that the operation was carried out in close cooperation with the State Police structures in Tirana, Elbasan and Durrës, as well as with the responsible prosecutors' offices and police stations along the route.

The convoys arrived without incident at the respective institutions, where all standard procedures for the accommodation of convicts and detainees were implemented. This operation, according to the institution, demonstrates the high level of inter-institutional coordination, commitment to security and the improvement of conditions in the penitentiary system.

In implementation of the Measure Plan No. 1261, dated 23.01.2026, and within the framework of the reconstruction process of the Fushë-Krujë Prison, the General Directorate of Prisons has successfully carried out the transfer of convicts and pre-trial detainees to other institutions for serving sentences.

During this well-organized operation, a total of 142 people were transferred, specifically 85 to the Peqin Penitentiary and 57 to the Durrës Penitentiary. The process was carried out under increased security measures, with the engagement of operational and special forces, specialized employees and the use of dedicated vehicles. 340 police officers and 48 vehicles were involved in this operation.

The operation was carried out using modern digital technology, including aerial surveillance drones, anti-drone systems, and individual digital communication systems for each employee involved.

Body and vehicle cameras transmitted live footage, ensuring maximum transparency, control and security.

Also, the operation was coordinated in real time with all law enforcement institutions along the movement route, including the Prosecutor's Offices of General Jurisdiction, the Local Police Directorates of Tirana, Elbasan and Durrës, as well as the relevant police stations, ensuring efficient inter-institutional cooperation.

Both convoys arrived without incident at their respective destinations, where standard procedures for the reception, screening and accommodation of detainees and convicts were implemented, in full compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.

This operation demonstrates the maximum commitment of the Prison System to guarantee security, investment in modern infrastructure, the use of advanced technology and rigorous respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
